EPIC Art Welcomes Dominik Ambroise

Address: Kimpton EPIC Hotel, 270 Biscayne Boulevard Way Miami, FL 33131
Ages: Not listed
Parking: Not listed
Description:
“Dominik Ambroise is a Haitian American abstract artist based in South Florida whose work centers on resilience, healing, and joy. Born and raise in Port-au-Prince, she experienced a life-changing car accident at age 20 that left her with visible scars and deeply affected her self-image. For years, she hid behind clothing and silence, until she found painting, a sanctuary where she could process pain and transform vulnerability into beauty.
Dominik began drawing in 1982 while studying Childhood Education, a path that reflects her commitment to emotional growth and creative expression. She later expanded into painting in 2000 and, after immigrating to the U.S. in 2006, refined her technique through courses at Miami Dade College and classes at Oolite Arts and the Pérez Art Museum Miami.
Her abstract work is rich with textured layers, bold colors, and expressive movement. Using palette knives and unconventional objects, she creates surfaces that reflect both her inner journey and her desire to uplift others. Her latest solo exhibition, Unbreakable Light, presented as part of the Epic Art Residency 2025, celebrates transformation, self-acceptance, and the joyful power of embracing one's true self.”

A successful journalist returns to her hometown just as her biggest mistake becomes headline news in this vibrant, funny, and heartfelt novel about facing the past, and its secrets, head-on.
Entertainment journalist Dawn Roberts has a lot to work through: a widow's grief, betrayals of family and friends, and scandals that almost tanked her reputation. Not that Dawn dwells on the past. Well, hardly. When she returns to Baltimore with her husband's ashes, she can't avoid it. In fact, she's diving into decades of backstabbing and treachery for her first trip home in years.
She's looking at you, Joe Perkins. Her former mentor, whose explosive expos about big-city corruption is being turned into a slanderous movie, is also back in town. The villain of the piece? Dawn. The good news is that this could all be a chance to reset--heal family wounds, admit to her own mistakes, and maybe even reconnect with the one who got away. Oh, and get even with Joe any way she can.
With the surprising help of an up-and-coming journalist and a legendary R & B diva, Dawn will finally set the record straight. Returning home might just be the biggest story in Dawn's life, a fresh start--and happy ending--she never expected.”

“About the Book:
A Lit Hub Most Anticipated Book of 2025
When a group of old college friends reunites for a summer vacation at a beach house in coastal Massachusetts, a sudden disappearance and the arrival of a seductive stranger threaten to unearth the darkest secrets of their relationships.
As they hurtle into midlife, Jim and his closest college friends get together to rekindle the bonds of their friendship in his family’s beautiful, generations-old vacation home along Buzzards Bay, the demands of work and family having caused them to drift apart over recent years. But what begins as a quiet and restorative seaside escape takes a darker turn when Bruce, an aloof but successful writer, disappears from the house without a trace, sending the group into an uneasy tension.
Meanwhile, a series of mysterious break-ins besets the town, which is the site of an old Spiritualist campground turned idyllic fishing village. After a series of uncanny disturbances at the house, Jim can’t help but feel that someone—or something—is watching them from the other side of the marsh. And with the arrival of a strange, seductive guest at their home, the group begins to question the very nature of their experiences—along with their already precarious ties with one other.
In The House on Buzzards Bay, Dwyer Murphy returns with a chilling, atmospheric page-turner that explores the bonds of friendship, the growing accumulation of life's responsibilities, and whether our youthful dreams can endure the complexities of adulthood.”

Join us in 2025!
Our free, weekly drop-in group offers a supportive community to write and connect with others.
No experience necessary! Sharing is optional.
This week, we'll begin by discussing a poem, and then launch into an hour of focused writing.
How it works
We arrive, settle in at the back of the cafe (the small tables and chairs along the back wall), meet + greet
Open with a short reading & discussion of a published work or something presented by one of our writers
Launch into an hour of individual writing.
That's it!
How it started
I started WriteMiami in March 2024, when a friend and I were in search of a dedicated time and place to work on our passion projects. Two more friends graciously offered up their living room for the first midday Sunday gathering, giving rise to our slogan "We Write at Noon!" Then, as more friends, colleagues, neighbors and friendly strangers joined in, the Write Miami community was born. The rest is still unwritten...
